The Main Technician is a core member of the Subaru service team at Wilmington Auto Group, responsible for diagnosing and repairing customer vehicles to Subaru factory standards. Reporting to the Service Manager, this role performs maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and repairs on Subaru vehicles, including Boxer engines, Symmetrical AWD, and EyeSight driver-assist systems, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and first-time-fix performance.

This role requires a skilled, self-directed technician who takes pride in accurate work, communicates clearly with advisors, and contributes to a safe, productive shop and a positive customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnosis & Repair

• Perform complex repairs, including engine, transmission, drivetrain, suspension, brake, and electrical system repairs.

• Perform scheduled maintenance and multi-point inspections in accordance with Subaru service schedules.

• Complete warranty, recall, and technical service bulletin repairs to manufacturer procedures.

• Verify repairs through road tests and post-repair quality checks to achieve first-time fix.

Documentation & Communication

• Accurately document concerns, causes, and corrections on repair orders, including warranty-ready documentation.

• Communicate findings, recommended repairs, and time needs clearly to service advisors.

• Notify management promptly of additional repairs needed, parts issues, or problems that could affect quality or the promised time.

• Check parts against the repair order and confirm correct parts are ordered and received.

Productivity & Quality

• Meet or exceed targets for productivity, efficiency, and quality, including a low comeback rate.

• Manage work assignments and flagged hours efficiently, escalating delays or extra work needs to the Service Manager.

• Take ownership of repeat repairs and comebacks and resolve them promptly.

Training, Safety & Compliance

• Complete required Subaru training and maintain ASE and Subaru certifications to advance through certification levels.

• Follow OSHA, environmental, and dealership safety requirements, including lift safety, Lockout/Tagout, and proper handling and disposal of fluids and hazardous materials.

• Wear required personal protective equipment and comply with OSHA Right-to-Know and applicable hazardous waste regulations, reporting deviations to management.

• Maintain a clean, organized work bay and care for tools, equipment, and customer vehicles.

• Cooperate with and support other personnel; mentor lube technicians, apprentices, and newer technicians as needed.

• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Core Competencies

Advanced diagnostics; technical accuracy and quality; productivity and time management; Subaru product knowledge; communication and teamwork; safety awareness; commitment to continuous learning.

Performance Measures

Performance is evaluated on efficiency and productivity, comeback and first-time-fix rate, repair order documentation accuracy, adherence to safety standards, contribution to customer satisfaction (CSI), and progress on Subaru and ASE certification.
