As an HGV Recovery Driver, you’ll often work independently, but the moment you step out of your truck, you become a source of calm and confidence. With empathy and resilience, you’ll support members through stressful moments, using your technical expertise to recover vehicles safely and efficiently. Whether it’s transporting a vehicle to a garage or helping someone reach their destination, you’ll make a real difference in their day and their journey.

What will I be doing?

Delivering exceptional service by safely recovering vehicles and reassuring customers during breakdowns, helping them get back on the road quickly.

Working independently across varied locations and conditions, while remaining a valued part of a supportive team.

Solving problems on the spot, using your technical skills and calm approach to handle a wide range of roadside situations.

Staying solution-focused and compliant with EU Regulations & WTD, representing The AA with professionalism and a drive to always “Push for Better.”

Qualifications

What do I need?

A full Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence is essential. If you already hold a Category CE (HGV Class 1) licence — great! If not, don’t worry — we’ll support you in gaining it.

A valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and a digital tachograph card.

Confidence using and adapting to new technology — we’ll provide the tools; you bring the curiosity.

Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays because breakdowns don’t stick to a schedule.
