This is a fantastic remote opportunity for a BI & Analytics Developer to join a mission-driven company focused on reducing disease burden through knowledge creation. If you're looking to make a real impact while enjoying a creative and inclusive culture, this could be the perfect fit!
Job description
About us
Our Vision
uMed seeks to be a cornerstone of the efforts to reduce the burden of disease for patients by radically reducing the barriers to knowledge creation.
Join us.
Our Culture
We are a group of trusting and inclusive individuals, who encourage, are creative and want to make a difference in the world. We do not take ourselves too seriously and we love to tell a story. We innovate, work hard and take risks but at the forefront is a joint mission to be part of groundbreaking research to ultimately advance and develop science to support those most in need.
What we do
The process of conducting clinical research is incredibly expensive and time consuming, limiting our efforts to find answers to the world’s most important medical challenges. uMed is a clinical research network fit for the 21st century, underpinned by cutting edge technology that connects patients, electronic health data and research groups across the world. Our rapidly growing network covers 90 GP sites in the UK representing over 2,000,000 patients with our first US healthcare system joining us this year bringing a further 5M patients. uMed was founded by an NHS doctor, supported by a world class board and backed by London and US based venture capital.
Life at uMed
No matter what an organisation is trying to achieve, success or failure is inextricably linked to the people within it. For a young company, there is no redundancy, so this relationship is turned up to eleven.
At uMed we punch well above our weight due to the quality of the team we have built, and their dedication to our shared vision. Recognising this dedication, we have a fantastic benefits package and accompanying culture at uMed. This includes
Private Health Insurance to keep you covered
Pension Plan to help you secure your future
25 days of paid time off for your well-deserved breaks
Work From Home equipment budget for a comfortable working space
Flexible Benefits platform tailored to your needs
Enjoy your Birthday Day Off on us!
Eye-test vouchers for Specsavers to look after your eyesight
Coworking policy – catch up with the team as regularly as once a week
Enhanced Parental Leave
Role Overview
The BI & Analytics Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining uMed's business intelligence and analytics solutions, enabling teams across the business to access accurate, reliable, and useful information.
The role will primarily work within Zoho Analytics, building and maintaining data preparation processes, data models, query tables, datasets, pipelines, reports, and dashboards to support operational, product, clinical research, and management reporting.
This is a hands-on role combining BI development with ad hoc data analysis. The BI & Analytics Developer will work with stakeholders to understand their questions and reporting needs, determine the most appropriate way to address them, and translate those requirements into effective reporting or analytical solutions. This may range from developing a new dashboard or reusable dataset to performing ad hoc analysis directly against underlying data.
The role requires someone who is comfortable working with data beyond the visualization layer. They should be able to use SQL to investigate underlying data, understand relationships between datasets and how data moves through reporting solutions, troubleshoot discrepancies, and determine whether issues originate within the BI layer or upstream.
Key Responsibilities:
BI Development & Data Modeling
Design, build, and maintain datasets, reports, and dashboards within Zoho Analytics.
Build and maintain data preparation processes, pipelines and other transformations within Zoho Analytics to support reporting and analytics.
Create and maintain query tables, using SQL to combine, transform, and prepare data for reporting and analysis.
Design and maintain data models within Zoho Analytics, including defining appropriate relationships between tables and selecting the correct relationship fields and cardinality, such as one-to-one and one-to-many relationships.
Understand the impact of table relationships and data model changes on calculations, aggregation, and downstream reporting.
Develop calculated fields, formulas, filters, and other reporting logic to produce accurate, meaningful outputs.
Build clear, intuitive dashboards that enable users to understand and explore data effectively.
Develop reusable datasets and reporting solutions where appropriate, reducing duplication and enabling greater self-service across the business.
Apply good data modeling, transformation and data management practices when developing BI and analytics solutions, taking into account the structure and limitations of upstream source data.
Ad Hoc Analytics & Data Investigation
Perform ad hoc analysis to answer business, operational, and research-related questions using available data.
Use SQL to interrogate underlying datasets and warehouse data, including where analysis cannot be performed directly within Zoho Analytics.
Investigate questions involving multiple data sources, criteria, or patient characteristics and provide accurate, clearly understood results.
Determine whether recurring analytical requests are better addressed through a reusable dataset, query table, report, or dashboard, and develop these where appropriate.
Investigate discrepancies or unexpected results within reports and dashboards and determine whether issues originate within the BI layer or upstream.
Work with the Enterprise Data and Application teams when investigations identify an issue with an upstream data source or when a change is required, ensuring any changes are raised and managed through the appropriate process.
Data Quality & Monitoring
Regularly monitor BI datasets, data preparation processes, pipelines, scheduled refreshes, reports and dashboards to ensure data remains current and reliable.
Proactively identify failed or delayed refreshes,
