Job description
Downer is seeking a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to support safe and successful outcomes across our Transport & Infrastructure business. This role combines operational field leadership, technical expertise, governance and capability development to strengthen health and safety performance across a diverse operational environment.
As a Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you will partner with operational leaders, frontline personnel and Health & Safety team members to improve risk management, strengthen critical controls and drive continuous improvement. This role requires a balanced approach between field engagement, systems and governance, data and reporting, and the development of people and capability.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting operational leaders and frontline teams through coaching, mentoring and practical Health & Safety guidance.
Leading incident investigations, risk management activities, audits and assurance programs.
Monitoring and analysing performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Supporting compliance with Health & Safety systems, standards and legislative requirements.
Developing the capability of operational personnel and Health & Safety Advisors through coaching, learning and knowledge sharing.
Providing functional leadership and influencing positive change across the business.
Leading by example and promoting a culture of accountability, learning and continuous improvement.
About You
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum).
Minimum 5 years' experience as a Health and Safety professional within a high-risk operational environment.
ICAM Lead Investigator qualification.
Quality/Safety Lead Internal Auditor qualification (desirable).
Demonstrated experience within civil construction, infrastructure, road maintenance, asphalt, utilities or similar operational industries.
Proven experience supporting frontline operational teams where work is planned, supervised and delivered in live field environments.
Experience leading incident investigations, assurance activities, audits and risk management processes.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety systems, governance, reporting and performance management.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop others to improve capability and performance.
Experience providing leadership through direct reports, indirect reports, project teams, functional leadership or mentoring relationships.
Previous people leadership or supervisory experience will be highly regarded.
Experience in injury management and workers compensation processes.
Ability to balance field leadership, systems, administration and operational priorities within a fast-paced environment.
