Join Our Team: Protect, Serve, and Make a Difference!

We are the Rural Fire Service (RFS), a dedicated community of volunteers providing fire and emergency services to approximately 95% of NSW. When you work with the RFS, you join a passionate team committed to protecting our neighbours, the wider community, and the environment from the threat of bushfires and other emergencies. With over 70,000 volunteer members and staff, we embody the spirit of mutual respect, support, friendship, and camaraderie. We are one team with many players, united by a single purpose. If you share our passion for community service and environmental protection, we want to hear from you! Become a part of our mission to safeguard lives and our cherished NSW landscapes.

What you’ll be doing:

The Community Engagement Supervisor is the trusted 2IC to the Manager Community Engagement, supporting the delivery of the Community Engagement and Preparedness Framework and broader community preparedness initiatives across NSW. The role provides day-to-day supervision, coordination and support to four members of the Community Engagement team, helping to ensure projects, programs and priorities are delivered on time, to a high standard, and that team members are supported in their professional development.

The role oversees the team's day-to-day activities, coordinates projects, and supports the implementation of community engagement programs, resources and initiatives. Working closely with Districts, Brigades, Area Commands and internal stakeholders, the Supervisor helps translate strategic priorities into practical activities that strengthen community preparedness and resilience.

The Supervisor also plays an important role in supporting the Manager Community Engagement with stakeholder relationships, sector partnerships and strategic projects, while helping to foster a collaborative, customer-focused and high-performing team culture.

Our ideal candidate:

You will have experience coordinating projects, programs or initiatives that require collaboration across multiple stakeholders and competing priorities. You understand how to turn plans into action, keep work moving and support others to deliver quality outcomes.

You are a supportive leader who provides guidance, coaching and day-to-day direction to team members while fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. You build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with a broad range of people, including colleagues, volunteers, community members and partner organisations.

You are comfortable working in a supporting leadership role, balancing operational delivery with longer-term priorities. You take a practical approach to problem-solving, adapt well to changing circumstances and look for opportunities to improve the way work is delivered.

You have sound judgement, a collaborative approach and the ability to build trust with both internal and external stakeholders. A genuine appreciation of community service and volunteer-based organisations will be highly regarded, along with a commitment to customer service and supporting safer, more resilient communities.
